Since its inception, culture has been at the heart of Primary Power. Initially starting out with a team of three specialist power system consultants, its founders recognised that the business’ culture and people would be integral to success.

Mentoring and supported learning

Their fully equipped team possess knowledge, abilities, and skills in a host of different industry subject areas, meaning that Primary Power are in a fantastic position to both support continued career growth and nurture emerging talent.

Knowledge is actively dispersed within and across the team. Plus, transparent and honest communication ensures that challenges can be managed quickly, and team members have continuous support.

Mark Webb, Project Manager at Primary Power, reflects on the mentoring support that he has received since joining Primary Power:

“I joined Primary Power with a transmission asset management background, supported with field operational and technical experience. The organisation is a design and project management organisation in areas of distribution, so I was conscious that there were knowledge gaps to fill.

“Primary Power sets a great environment to share its depth of knowledge across the organisation. I have received great support from a range of people across the business. Firstly, Darrel Turnbull in areas of switchgear supply chain and build, including the associated contractual arrangements all the way to site integration. As Jack Ball, Senior Project Engineer, shared in his recent insight piece, supported learning has played an instrumental part in his Primary Power journey, with him currently being supported in his steps towards becoming a Chartered Engineer. Jack’s achievement will not only benefit his career but reinforce the expertise available at Primary Power.

Flexible and agile working

Primary Power was established in 2020, a time that we remember well. Covid presented a plethora of challenges, however it also provided businesses, especially those new to market, with an opportunity – to embrace the world of remote and agile working.

Primary Power’s team are spread across the UK, enabling them to recruit new talent from all four corners of the country. This also benefits clients, with team members geographically spread and able to support them in their place of work.

The team do meet on a quarterly basis with frequent regional team socials, to ensure that its members can check in and get to know each other in an informal setting. Flexible and agile are two key words that spring to mind when you think about Primary Power and will always remain a core ethos of the business.
