As Primary Power expands its technical offering, the growth of its civil engineering capability has become a defining part of that evolution. Although still in its early stages, this development is already proving to be both rewarding and transformative for the business.

To explore this evolution and what the team are looking forward to in 2026, we spoke to Mark Lowe, Civil Engineering Manager at Primary Power:

“It’s been a rewarding experience helping Primary Power to integrate civil design within the wider business. We are set to grow the team further this year, while continuing to refine our processes and strengthen our integration with other teams.

“Since joining the company last year, I’ve had the chance to work on a variety of projects of different scales and complexities. No matter the challenge, Primary Power consistently maintains high standards and deep technical expertise.

“I’ve particularly enjoyed working on major power infrastructure projects. It’s been great to work directly with clients, guiding them and helping them understand what they can achieve.”

Mark highlights how essential it is for civil engineering to be embedded as a core function within the business:

“Having civil engineering capability in-house has enabled Primary Power to broaden its offering and continue to grow. It means we can deliver full turnkey projects and go above and beyond for our clients.

“This integration also helps the team to provide well-rounded, considered designs; a holistic solution rather clients having to source support from multiple places. Ultimately, it frees up time and helps clients overcome challenges more quickly and efficiently.”

The benefits of integrating civil engineering with the wider team are already clear, as Mark explains:

“Embedding civil engineering capabilities quite simply provides a seamless, coordinated approach to design. Civil and electrical teams already work closely together, so fully integrating them ensures better alignment across every stage of the design process. Clients have a single point of contact, which streamlines communication and approvals.

“It also helps to reduce design risks and gives us a clearer understanding of potential challenges. As we move through the design process, integration helps us flag issues early and make any necessary modifications. There’s a genuine appetite for collaboration within Primary Power.”

Communication plays a central role in how the team works together to solve problems and deliver solutions:

“We hold regular internal design meetings, either in person or virtually, to address any challenges we are facing and how to resolve them. This makes things smoother during the design process and later onsite.

“People are the heart of Primary Power, reflected in the company’s success and continued growth. Working in a transparent, connected environment enables us to make a positive impact across our projects.”

Looking ahead, the ambition is clear: continue building the team and invest in emerging talent. A potential graduate programme is already being explored, recognising the value of nurturing early career engineers and shaping the next generation of expertise.

Mark reflects on another area that he is excited for in Primary Power’s future:

“I’m looking forward to seeing the first building that Primary Power has helped bring to life, a milestone that will reflect the team’s hard work, dedication, and growing impact.”
